The mission of Keep Cass County Beautiful Program is to educate, enable and encourage all Cass County residents to take greater responsibility for enhancing their community environment.
We are a countywide organization organized in 2012 to promote keeping all our communities clean, beautiful, and litter free. Volunteers are welcome from every town, village and community within the county. Throughout each year we will be participating in a wide variety of activities sponsored by Keep Nebraska Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful.
The Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup is the nation's largest annual cleanup and community improvement event, which runs from March 1 through May 31. The Great American CleanupTM stimulates community pride by involving residents, businesses, and politicians at the state and local level in an effort to improve and beautify their local environment. It encourages volunteerism, personal action, and responsibility, and promotes the missions of the Keep Cass County Beautiful organization: litter prevention, beautification, and minimizing the impact of solid waste.
Keep Cass County Beautiful will furnish trash bags, banners and posters while supplies last to those Cass County communities who wish to participate in the Great American Cleanup this Spring. Activities can include litter cleanups, special recycling events, planting red flowers for a "Grow Big Red" garden, increased recycling collections, tree plantings, clothes collections, etc. Please register any event or activity you wish to do so we are able to keep track of everything happening in Cass County and report them back to Keep America Beautiful.
During the 2011 Great American Cleanup, Nebraska held events with 19,865 volunteers representing 251 communities participating. They collected 1,784703 pounds of litter, and 261,225 pounds of cell phones, computers and other electronics. Additionally, 2,062 trees were planted as well as 10,025 flowers. Grow Big Red Gardens were planted with red and white flowers. The Great American CleanupÂȘ was a time to increase our educational outreach. A total of 205 education workshops were conducted with 12,265 people in attendance. We look forward to even more impressive results in 2012!
